More Information
Few tenor-men have achieved the notoriety bestowed on Joe Lovano by critics and fans alike, and with good reason. Lovano spent his early years refining a breathtaking technique, and the rest of his career in the service of heartfelt storytelling. An equally accomplished educator, Lovano is joined in this ensemble by his most accomplished student. Armed with absolute instrumental mastery, multilingual vocal facilities and composing/arranging skills to boot, 20-something bassist Esperanza Spalding has already gained a reputation for defying the stereotypes. Pianist James Weidman and drummers Francisco Mela and Otis Brown III complete this awe-inspiring quintet, which will perform material from the heralded 2009 Blue Note release, Folk Art. |
