Helene and Celia Faussart got their start on the slam poetry circuits in Paris and Bourdeaux. The sisters eventually assumed the moniker Les Nubians and set to work crafting a singular a cappella hybrid of soul music with rhythmic sensibilities borrowed from African and reggae traditions. They gained worldwide attention and a Grammy nomination with a pair of major label releases in the late 1990’s, and have since maintained an important presence on the fringes of hip-hop and R&B. A living testament to the power of understatement with a brand new record in the works, Les Nubians are bound to break out a few surprises at this rare west coast appearance.
