As if a 2011 Grammy nomination wasn’t proof enough, Vijay Iyer has been called “the most commanding pianist and composer to emerge in recent years” (The Village Voice) and one of “today’s most important pianists” (New Yorker). Needless to say, 2012 was a banner year for Iyer, who topped five categories in the DownBeat Critics Poll. March of last year saw the release of his album Accelerando, an intense and visceral album of original compositions and re-imagined covers. Iyer will be performing material from this album and beyond, with his current trio.
