Guitarist/violinist Dorado Schmitt is the finest contemporary purveyor of Django Reinhardt's gypsy-jazz tradition. Schmitt acquired his musical skills while growing up in the Roma culture of France. Aside from a detour into rock music during his teen years, Schmitt has been a loyal acolyte of the Reinhardt musical legacy, a legacy characterized by the hard-charging swing rhythms of classic jazz, matched with streamlined melodic and harmonic sophistication. Far from being stuck in the past, Schmitt and his All-Stars exemplify how Django's innovations remain fresh in present times. His band consists of Francko Mehrstein – rhythm guitar, Ludovic Beier – accordion, Pierre Blanchard –violin and Xavier Nikq – bass.
