Arturo Sandoval's renowned musicianship and dynamic trumpet playing has garnered six Grammy Awards, six Billboard Awards, and an Emmy Award (For Love or Country soundtrack). His latest recording project, Dear Diz, Every Day I Think Of You is a tribute to his mentor and friend, jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie. A co-founder of the Cuban group Irakere, Sandoval has been leading his own groups since 1981. He has recorded or performed with a stylistically diverse group of artists ranging from Stan Getz, Woody Shaw, and Dizzy Gillespie to decidedly non-jazz fare with the London Symphony, Rod Stewart and Alicia Keys. In addition to his masterful trumpet playing, Sandoval is also an excellent pianist, composer, and classical music performer. |
