More Information
The second son of John and Alice Coltrane, Ravi Coltrane began playing clarinet at an early age, eventually switching to saxophone. In 1991, his father's renowned drummer, Elvin Jones, saw something in Ravi and hired him. He suddenly found himself alongside a veritable "Who's Who" of legendary jazz and pop players, attaining a huge amount of knowledge and skill. After his tenure with Jones, Ravi built a career as a live performer, often playing at major venues with his core group: Luis Perdomo (piano), Drew Gress (bass) and EJ Strickland (drums).
