More Information
More a loose amalgamation of forty-odd independent artists than a band per-se, the Jazz Mafia has nevertheless been at the forefront of a veritable jazz renaissance in San Francisco. At the center of this movement is bassist/trombonist/composer Adam Theis. Necessity was the mother of Theis's invention (making a living as a musician is naturally a lot easier with several bands), but his dedication to genuine creativity is best served by catering each performance to a handpicked cast of sidemen. Take for instance, this "All Star" appearance, which should give a potent reminder of the heavy jazz scene taking root right in our own backyard. |
